Making Waves at Weston Wallz: Painting a Deep-Sea Kitty
I recently had the absolute pleasure of heading over to the lovely seaside town of Weston-super-Mare for Weston Wallz. It was such a brilliant weekend, and despite the classic British weather doing its worst, being part of such a fantastic lineup of artists was an incredible experience.
A massive thank you to everyone who braved the rain to pop by, say hello, and chat about the wall—your support honestly means the world to me!
The Concept: Space Cats Meet the Seaside
When thinking about what to paint for a seaside festival, I wanted to bring something playful and a little unexpected. As you can see in the result was this cosmic, deep-sea explorer: a fluffy blue cat wearing a bubble helmet, completely fascinated by a floating pink jellyfish.
It mixes my love for graphic, illustrative animals with a fun, narrative twist. There's something so charming about a cat being utterly transfixed by a jellyfish, safely tucked inside its own little diving bubble.
Trading the Spray Cans for Brushes
This piece was a massive milestone for me technically. If you’ve followed my work for a while, you know my usual go-to is spray paint. But for this wall, I decided to set myself a fun challenge: it was painted entirely with brushes and masonry paint.
Swapping out the cans for brushes forced me to slow down and really enjoy the tactile process of layering the colours. It’s a completely different rhythm, but it felt incredibly rewarding—especially when working on the soft gradients of the bubble and the intricate, flowing tentacles of the jellyfish.
